Straight out of Benin, Africa Abdoul-Halil Chabi always wanted to be a hooper. He was inspired by Kevin Durant and Pascal Siakham when he first started playing the game. His most vital inspiration though was by his older brother, Mouphtaou Yarou. The former Villanova product was playing professionally in Europe for teams like Radnicki Kragujevac and LeMans Sarthe Basket just to name a few. Yarou currently plays for Boulazac. In 2013 the hopeful big man was going to get drafted to the NBA. The Boston Celtics wanted him. Unfortunately, because of a fatal knee injury Mouphtaou Yarou value went down and no team wanted him anymore. Instead, he took his talents to Europe.

The young prospect told me, “Once you start playing basketball in Africa the first thing they will teach you is how to dunk.” After his small time in Benin, he eventually moved to France and that was where he elevated his game.
